CNN —Not even a beer at the movies is spared from shrinkflation, alleges a lawsuit against Cinemark. Waldrop then took the container home and measured it for himself, finding it only held 22 ounces, according to the lawsuit. Rising prices seem to have boosted that revenue: Cinemark reported concession revenue for 2023 exceeded revenue in 2019 by 3%, even though movie attendance was 25% lower. A 20-ounce drink at the Plano, Texas, Cinemark theater Waldrop visited costs $7.80 pre-tax, while a 24-ounce drink costs just $1 more, at $8.80. “The 24 oz drink should provide a deal for consumers over the 20 oz drink’s price: $0.37 per ounce vs. $0.39 per ounce,” the lawsuit said.

PLANO, Texas (AP) — A small plane crashed and burned Tuesday on the doorstep of a strip mall in Texas, killing the pilot and causing a nearby car to catch fire, but nobody on the ground was injured, authorities said. The single-engine Mooney M20, with just the pilot aboard, went down at about 6 p.m. north of Air Park-Dallas Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Photos from the scene showed the wreckage in a parking space next to a nail salon and diner just outside of the shopping center in the Dallas suburb of Plano. The crash caused a parked car to catch fire, but nobody was inside the vehicle, authorities said. It wasn't immediately clear whether the plane was taking off or trying to land at the small suburban airport, which has a single runway.

That’s because many big banks have been playing a ‘do as I say, not as I do’ game with customers. Many large bricks-and-mortar banks pay even less—Wells Fargo, for example, pays 0.15% on its standard savings account while JP Morgan Chase pays 0.01%. Evergreen Bank—a locally-owned bank serving the Chicago suburbs—is currently offering a 5.25% APY on savings accounts, one of the best savings account rates for October. Compare that to what big banks offer and you can see the appeal of looking for alternatives to the big banks. Goldman Sachs partners are leaving — some 202 during David Solomon's five years as CEO by Insider's calculation. In particular, before Solomon, Goldman nurtured many fiefs and then spread the wealth from the most successful ones across the firm. Of the former Goldman executives that Insider interviewed, here are the most cited reasons they gave for leaving Goldman. When both men struggled, senior partners left, and Goldman stumbled in its efforts to wind down its balance-sheet investments. Goldman Sachs partners are paid well by any standard: $950,000 in base salary and often multiples of that in annual bonuses.

Texas resident Vanessa Chaverri-Gratz was casually perusing real estate with her husband on a date. We didn't plan to move right away, we said, "Let's just look at real estate, because that's really fun." The house is located in Grosse Ile, Michigan, an island between Michigan and Canada. We were not going to offer over asking, and we weren't going to put ourselves in a bad situation with selling our home. We agreed that unless everything literally fell into perfect place, it wasn't going to happen — and a lot of things needed to fall into place.

Devoting this much land to parking makes housing more expensive and hurts the environment. Removing some of our parking could boost our quality of life, according to a former Google exec. All this parking is a burden on our environment, government budgets, affordable housing, and, ultimately, quality of life, Poskey said. He pointed to onerous parking requirements as a reason for the country's lack of affordable housing. Areas of Plano, Texas; Springfield, Massachusetts; and New Orleans with a mix of commercial buildings and stores accounted for 3% of those cities' land but 40% of their jobs, the Brookings Institution found.
A society committed to housing and feeding its people will ensure plenty of land is dedicated to homes and farms. According to the builder WGI, the average parking stall in the US costs $27,900 to build, more than the cost of many new compact cars. The money and resources dedicated to parking could be used for other purposes, but breaking our country's reliance on parking has been difficult. Parking accounted for about 27% of per-unit costs, regardless of whether the resident owned a car or not. Better transportation, better land use, better citiesEfforts are underway to finally rid America of its unhealthy devotion to parking.

At a meeting in Florida last week, Florida Republican Will Robinson Jr. read out names like "Anita Dick" and "Holden Hiscock."
